Synopsis
School health is an important aspect of children's health and an integral part of school education. School Health Services in India: The Social and Economic Contexts, looks at school health in a holistic manner by locating the context of children's socio-economic circumstances and the health needs that arise from it. It uses empirical work to look at the context and programmes that address these needs and then examines the engagement of health related issues in the school curriculum. It brings together original research that addresses the socio-economic context of school-going children and programmes such as Midday Meal programme and the school health services that are designed to address the nutritional needs and health concerns of children.
Health education is now part of school curriculum, and this volume showcases the experiences of three NGOs who have adopted innovative approaches to transact health education in government schools in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka.
