Synopses & Reviews
This richly illustrated picture book will bring adults and children together to share the wonder of an engaging Christmas legend. The story focuses on Gunther, a German cobbler who no longer celebrates Christmas. He is surprised by the appearance of a woman and two children who set a beautiful candle in his window. They explain that the candle will light the way for the Christ Child to visit. In his excitement Gunther plans to give presents to the Christ Child, but when three needy strangers come to his shop, Gunther gives the gifts away one by one. The Christ Child does not appear, and Gunther is disheartened--until he learns the meaning of "do unto the least of these." Inspired by the Leo Tolstoy short story "Where Love Is, There God Is Also, " The Candle in the Window teaches an important lesson about the blessings of generosity.
