Like much of Dale Chihuly's work, Chihuly Over Venice was not simply an installation--it was an enthralling experience. This colorful journal documents the culmination of Chihuly's artistic odyssey from his Seattle hotshop to four of the greatest glassmaking centers in the world: Nuutajarvi, Finland; Waterford, Ireland; Monterrey, Mexico; and finally Venice, Italy. Chihuly and his American team worked in each country with local glassblowers to create a series of Chandeliers. The outcome was distinctively "Chihuly": fourteen brilliant Chandeliers graced the campos and canals of Venice for a remarkable time in September 1996. Full-color photographs record for readers the installations as they were assembled and completed along the waterways. An extensive chronology provides background on the artist's career.
