Synopses & Reviews
In this book, French science analyst Jean-Claude Derian takes an independent and informed look at the American technology system. As an outsider, Derian provides interpretations and perspectives that those closer to the scene are likely to miss or too easily dismiss, and he identifies important issues -that must be addressed if the United States is to retain world leadership in high technology.
Review
Jean-Claude Derian is in the distinguished tradition of Tocqueville - a French visitor who grasps US institutions better than most natives.... Brilliant."
—Robert Kuttner, Nature
Among the many books about America's waning competitiveness - particularly in the high-technology industries - this volume stands out as an eloquent and authoritative presentation of the many different aspects of this complex problem. It also suggests, by implication, where the solution for it might be sought. "
