Synopses & Reviews
With young Annie as the narrator, readers can share in one family's warm and lovely Sabbath.
It's late Friday afternoon, nearly time for Annie to take the wine cups from the cupboard. In the kitchen, steam rises from the soup, the chicken browns in the oven, and an apple pie cools on the counter. After Mama lights the candles and sings the blessing, Annie's family settles into the living room for the Shabbat songs. Later, at the table, Daddy sings the Kiddush and together the family enjoys a Shabbat feast.
On Saturday morning, everyone walks to the synagogue where Annie sits between Grandma and Grandpa. After the Shabbat prayers, Grandma and Grandpa share lunch with the family, as well as stories and quiet time together. When evening comes, Annie says, "Shabbat is like a present that we open every week. I'm glad it comes again and again".
