We wanted to borrow a notion from next week's guest blogger ( TVstarKevinNealon) and insert a few subliminal messages into our newsletter ( shamelessripoff), but wiser voices prevailed ( bosssaidno). Instead, we're going to be completely up front about how exciting this newsletter is ( bestonesincethelastone)! We're thrilled to have an interview with David Wroblewski ( The Story of Edgar Sawtelle) and Gil Adamson ( The Outlander), whose books were featured in the third edition of our Indiespensable subscription club ( soldout/waitedtoolong). Along with signed first editions of The Host by Stephenie Meyer ( collector'sitem) and Snuff by Chuck Palahniuk ( bigmoneyoneBay), we have original essays by Rob Walker ( Buying In) and Timothy Snyder ( The Red Prince), plus INK Q&As from Andre Dubus III ( The Garden of Last Days), Steve Martini ( Shadow of Power), and Laura Dave ( The Divorce Party) to devour ( muchtastierthanthisblurb). And we're beside ourselves to feature guest bloggers Stephanie Klein ( Moose) and Kevin Nealon ( Yes, You're Pregnant, But What about Me?) hopefully he appreciates our homage ( bigfansdon'tsue).

FEATURED INTERVIEW
Two predictions: The Outlander will win at least one major award. And The Story of Edgar Sawtelle will find a home on bestseller lists. When we discovered these two remarkable debut novels and decided to feature
them together in Indiespensable, Powell's subscription club, someone on staff proposed a joint interview with the authors. Their books share more than you might imagine: runaways, ghostly visions, improvised
outdoor survival, scenes rendered so powerfully you may forget you're reading fiction (you may forget you're reading, altogether), and characters that linger long after you close the book.

IN OUR NEXT EDITION:
Walking home from the park, Wiggums showed Fup a shortcut. Off the streets, they crossed from one back yard to another: first through an easy gap between fence posts, then under a patch of chain link where some dog has dug a hole, and next, most impressively, via a sturdy span of plum tree branches.
"He'll forgive me," Fup said, meaning Bear. "In some ways, that's the hardest part. He'll say that he wants what I want, that what I want is what matters."
The plum tree set them down on the roof of a shed.
Wiggums didn't know how to respond he'd met Bear just a few times and wouldn't have presumed to understand their relationship. Instead of speaking, he motioned toward a woodpile conveniently stacked against the shed, stepping down.
"Bear will understand what drove me here," Fup reiterated.
Along the street out front, a blue Oldsmobile crept between houses, conspicuously, as if lost.
"If he didn't understand," Fup proposed, "he'd be mad at me, right? Totally pissed."
"I would think so," confirmed Wiggums, though it wasn't clear whether even Fup believed this. Was Wiggums meant to answer these questions as a cousin or as the representative male? He had no idea. Thankfully, they'd reached his house.
Parked in the driveway, there was the Oldsmobile, its trunk and bumper dressed in colorful stickers, bold messages on bright backgrounds. Wiggums welcomed the distraction.
Now Fup recognized the car. The sticker that proclaimed, "There is no snooze button on a cat that wants breakfast" beside a familiar dent by the back tire well.
Which is where she spotted Bear, in front of the tire, pawing anxiously at the gravel, looking around.
