I just read the news about the death of Donald Westlake, and I'm shocked and shaken. Mr. Westlake was one of my all-time favorite writers. He brightened my life with his books, and I told him so some years back. The world is diminished each time we lose a star like Donald Westlake. It's almost like a death in the family; especially if you're a book lover. I read the "Hot Rock" when I was still in high school--the only book that ever made me fall out of bed from laughing--and ever since I've been hooked. When I see a new book by Donald Westlake, I buy it without even perusing the jacket blurb. I know it will be good. Guaranteed. Good-bye to a legend. You will be sorely missed.
