Taking a pee that you’ve been holding for a long time is the best thing in the world. I’ve had four kidney transplants ‘cuz I like it so much. And reading Dorothy Dunnett is a very close second, especially with a nice pot of Peets Pride of the Port tea. C’mon, where’s that check already?!

I am with you, Miss Gretchen!! As someone who just opened a LARGE box of books that have ended their journey from far away Portland and into my hot little hands, there is NOTHING better!! Sure, I have several coffee shops...errr...I mean bookstores within a few mile radius but having your heart skip a beat when you see "Powell's" on the box is sooo worth the wait! It is like a little mini Christmas every time, with the same ooohs and ahhhs even. Sometimes, if no one is home, a little gentle massage with sweet nothings uttered to my little beauties. Free shipping over 50 bucks? Can you beat that? I submit to say you cannot!! Everytime I get on this website, I want to send Powell's a love letter!! From those of us stuck in places like Ohio, I hope you Oregonians appreciate what you've got!! (yes, that was green-eyed jealousy talking)

re: Murakami (my second favorite author) Some of those TIME questions are quite good. I just hope they moderate that page soon, I feel dirty for dipping my toe into that fetid pool. (As to "Best Thing in the World," I'll not say the standard chick lit answer of "dark chocolate," and instead say the obvious -- not just "Powell's," but the far more selfish: Opening my just delivered box of books from Powell's.)
