In Blind Descent
, Nevada Barr takes you to a place which, unless you go spelunking, you've probably never been before: Lechuguilla Cave in Carlsbad Caverns National Park. Her main character, Anna Pigeon, is claustrophobic but determined to do her job and save a fellow park ranger, even if that means descending into the cave. The world in Lechuguilla is stunning and so different from every day reality, it's almost like being on another planet.
One of the main reasons I love Nevada Barr is because she sets her books in different National Parks across the country and gives you a great feel for the park and the region. I recommend checking on the Internet for photos of Lechuguilla Cave (and other of Barr's locales) so you get a good visual reference when reading her books.
