My last blog. I want to thank Powell's for having me. I enjoyed blogging for my first time and what a place to start. I love the bookstore. I visited once a few years ago and found it to be everything its reputation promised. My husband, also a writer ? poetry and nonfiction ? his name is Mark Svenvold
? gave a reading there in 2002 for his book Big Weather
. With no question, that was the best reading experience of his tour. It was well organized and well attended and the audience asked wonderful questions.
Last night I did not give any readings to the public. Rather, privately, I did my favorite thing of all: I got into bed with my daughter and read to her. We read so much together. Now we are reading By the Shores of Silver Lake. She loves the Laura Ingalls Wilder books and so did I as a girl. It is fun to return to them through her eyes.
Today I get to relax and have lunch with my friend the novelist Rene Steinke ? Holy Skirts ? and talk about the progress of our new books. The one I'm working on now is supposed to be funny ? a new frontier for me. Goodbye.
