Mr. Winans has been around for a long time, and you can tell with this collection of poems, all based on his friendships in literally historic North Beach. In here you'll find photos and poems that play like old movie reels from the beat generation. Those immortalized are Bob Kaufman, S. Clay Wilson, Corso, Ginsberg, and Jack Micheline. Fiercely independent, Winans says in After My Poetry Reading: This guy comes up to me/After my reading/Tells me he's been reading/My work for decades/"You've written maybe/Ten good poems," he says/"Ten poems out of a thousand/What's that, 1%?/You wouldn't be a bat boy/In the majors," he says/Poor fool doesn't know/I write for the "littles"
