Powell's Book Talk
@Cafe Utne
Suggestion Central
Visit our online chat room where readers from around the world exchange
opinions about what books are worth buying - and which ones aren't.
At our web site, you'll find plenty of staff members' opinions to go around.
But what are our customers reading and enjoying?
We show you our Bestseller lists to let you know what people are buying - it's
a useful gauge of the excitement in our stores, pinpointing the "buzz" books,
the ones people are rushing out to buy. But did the people who bought those
books like them? Why or why not? Isn't that what really matters?
Maybe you're undecided about what to read next? Or you'd like to learn more
about a particular author or works within a given style - but you don't have
anyone nearby to ask? Come share your questions and opinions with us. The
author of Powell's online newsletter will be there, along with the rest of Cafe
Utne's members, to exchange advice and offer suggestions. Stop in and say
hello!
Here's how to join the discussion:
Visit Cafe Utne at http://cafe.utne.com/cafe/. Click on "Registration." Supply
only your name, email address, and User ID if you choose - the rest of the
information is optional. You'll immediately receive an email from the Cafe
with your password and introductory information.
Now, return to the Cafe address above - you'll find the link to Powell's
Reading Group in the page's left hand margin. (You'll notice another link on
the front page of the Literature conference, if you choose to enter via that
route.) Of course we hope you visit our Reading Group, but you might also take
a look around the cafe while you're there. New members will find all their
questions answered by skimming the FAQ and visiting the Help page.
So what are you waiting for?
Visit our Reading Group and talk about books with
us. Share some advice and hear what others are saying. Just lurk at first if
you like; make yourself comfortable. Reading through the discussion, you'll
probably discover dozens of books you'd never considered reading. Your own
questions and comments will arise soon enough. And you'll never get stuck
without something to read again.
