Harper C.: Five Book Friday: Uncanny Graphic Novels (0 comment)
We are in the thick of winter here in the Pacific Northwest, which means it's dark, damp, and chilly. Rather than escaping to stories with warmer, brighter climates, I personally want nothing more than to dive deep into gothic and uncanny fiction as the wind rattles my windows at night...

The Name of the Wind (the Kingkiller Chronicle: Day One) by Patrick Rothfuss
    Kate Deeks, February 11, 2015
Excellent book. If you read this book, and then book two, be prepared to pine for book three and its floating release date.

Miss Vickies Big Book of Pressure Cooker Recipes by Vickie Smith
    Kate Deeks, November 30, 2009
Miss Vickie's website is THE authority on everything related to pressure cooking. Have perused the book and can't wait to try recipes. Timing is very important in pressure cooking- and she does a good job on outlining it with variables.

Ghost In Love by Jonathan Carroll
    Kate Deeks, November 14, 2008
Read Jonathan Carroll. Just don't start with this book. If you have read Carroll's work before, you may be surprised to find some of the usually sparkle lacking from "The Ghost in Love." The characters are excellent, the story moves along, and it has the magical realism and Carroll-world elements I love- but this book feels slightly less well crafted than his other work. Read away!
