A Hat Full of Sky: Discworld: Tiffany Aching 2
by
Terry Pratchett
Chuck Childers
, October 21, 2014
This book is the 2nd in the Tiffany Aching series, and reading the first book, Wee Free Men, is highly recommended, although the book will still be enjoyable without it. It's also part of the Discworld series, but no knowledge of that series is necessary. Recommended ages: 12 and up (tho' I'm guessing the lower value). A Hat Full of Sky is an absolutely wonderful book that manages to be full of wonder and tinged with cynicism at the same time. As part of the Tiffany Aching series, it's an excellent introduction to Fantasy novels, and it makes excellent use of Tiffany Aching's journey away from home to be tutored as a young witch to provide lessons in growing up and a becoming responsible human being. Highly recommended.

Snuff: Discworld 39

As all of Discworld books, this is excellent. While the book can be read on its own, previous Discworld books, particularly any involving Commander Vimes and the City Watch would inform the goings on. Fun, funny and in places a bit sad.

The Little Prince

This is my go-to book when I'm feeling down or too grown-up. It shows me something new every time and reminds me what's important. If you have someone who needs to experience childhood, someone of any age, I can't help but recommend The Little Prince.

Blackout
by
Connie Willis
Chuck Childers
, September 01, 2011
It's hard to rate a book that is actually the first half of a two-volume novel, but I enjoyed _Blackout_. It's the story of multiple time travelers lost in England during World War II. Like many of Connie Willis's novels, there are mix-ups, misunderstandings and missed connections, but the tone is much more serious than her outrightly comedic books like _To Say Nothing of the Dog_. If the second book, _All Clear_, fulfills the promise of _Blackout_, I'll prob'ly revise my rating to 5 stars.

I love this book and Willis's ability to mix time travel with screwball comedy sensibilities.

Dream Of Scipio

Iain Pears demonstrates that the moral decisions of individuals can change history for good and ill, and that a moment's weakness can have repercussions throughout time.
