Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. Olivia Forms a Band

I LOVE OLIVIA. Ian Falconer captures the inner working of a child's mind and the dynamics of being in a house with small children so piognantly. My son loves Olivia too. They are fun books to read aloud and great books to ask questions to strengthen comprehension skills. The illustrations are a key component ot the story, the expressions on the mother's face and the thought bubbles, too cute! I found myself reading this in the bookstore and laughing out loud before I put it in the cart. The Olivia series is awesome!

Indelible

Karin Slaughter

For anyone who like books along the lines of Patricia Cornwell or TV shows like CSI or Law & Order, I strongly recommend adding Karin Slaughter to your reading library. Her characters are vivid and her stories are riviting. I purchased one of her books on a whim and ended up going back and purchasing all the others. She also has a really neat website in which she tell you how to make one of the main character's famous pot roasts. The interactions between her characters are realistic and compelling. Two thumbs up from me!

My son got this board book at one of his Wellness Checks at his pediatrician's office. He loves it. The books has suffered, unfortunately in the hands of two little boys one being three and the other two, (fighting over it) but they always ask for me to tell it to them before they go to sleep at night. I think it is great because it allows children to learn thier colors and the lines are easy enough for them to memorize and say it along with you. I am going to buy aditional copies of the book to put in a time capsule for my sons. Excellent children's book.
