Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. Last Twilight
by
Marjorie M Liu

Marjorie creates a poetically beautiful world, rich with color, love, heartbreak, hope, and despair. Although The Last Twilight can be read as a stand alone, it is a wonderful adition to the Dirk and Steele series. Amiri, a proud yet aloof shapeshifter finds himself inexplicapably drawn to Doctor Rikki Kinn, a woman he's been sent to protect from the rebels who threaten her life. But it turns out Rikki is not wanted dead, for she holds a dangerous secret that could be used to kill millions worldwide. Indeed, it appears as though Africal tribes are already dying from the virus she's been studying. Caught between running to save her life, or standing to save the lives of countless others, Rikki and Amiri find secrets not imagined in the jungle's core. For more than one group persues Rikki, and it appears Amiri has become a target as well. Cut off from the outside world, they must learn to trust eachother, because there is no one else they can trust in this world of secrets and lies where a new betrayal is discovered each moment, and each one threatens their lives.

Lord Of The Fading Lands
by

A wonderful read for anyone who enjoys fantasy or paranormal. This break-through author has created a stunning new world full of Fey, Mages, and most impressive, Tairen. Each land in her magical world has a diverse and detailed culture, and everything melds together beautifully into a stunning fantasy readers may forget isn't real. Anyone who enjoys Christine Feehan, Marjorie M. Liu, Alyssa Day, Sherrilyn Kenyon, or other paranormal writers will love this first book in C.L.'s Tairen Soul series.

Marjorie's books are always a pleasure to read. Anyone with a love of suspense with strong paranormal elements is doing themself a dis-favor if they haven't picked up one of her books yet. All of her books are amazing in themselves, but read the Dirk and Steele series in order to experience the full richness of her creativity.
