Really, one of the best nonfiction books I have read in a long time. I could barely put it down. Then I made the mistake of loaning it out when I hadn't finished the last chapter and my friend kept it awhile. Then my husband nabbed it the day I got it back. It is a good book! Very well written - easy and enjoyable to read. The subject matter is a nice wake up call to commonly held beliefs about kids. As a new mom I'm sure I will be referencing this book in the near future. If you have any interest in kids at all I'm pretty sure you'll find this book interesting and entertaining!

Maybe I'll come back to this one when my newborn little girl is a little older. I'm gonna call this review bad timing. I will say this: well written. Interesting (sort of shocking at times). Funny in a weird way. Just a little harsh. If you're thinking about reading this book, read the first few chapters in the book and be comfortable about brothers and sisters doing each other.

Proust & the Squid The Story & Science of the Reading Brain

A little technical term heavy for the average recreational nonfiction reader, but if you can hang with it, a fascinating study of reading and the brain. Made me want to keep reading actual books. There's all kinds of science and history and anecdote. Interesting.

I thought I would pick up this book and be a little bored. I was wrong. I could barely put it down. If you are a mother, or have ever loved someone, or have ever been married, or are just female, I think at least some part of this will register with you. And it's great historical fiction. Really well written. And seems to be based as much as much truth as was available. Read it! I don't think you'll be disappointed.

The other reviewers had more to say about this. It's a cool story. Especially if you play a stringed instrument (or are a sniper, but that seems less likely). Consider it. Teaches you some history too.

At first I was a little hesitant to pick up this book due to the kind of ridiculous title and the format - letters back and forth between characters (kind of drove me crazy at first). But don't let that stop you!! I wish I had read it sooner. Great story. If you're thinking about it now, I would go ahead and get it. I doubt you'll be disappointed.

I almost couldn't put this down. This is a great account from the people who were there, not an analysis from above. Mr. Gourevitch is a great writer. I wish all nonfiction read like this.

World Is Flat a Brief History of the Twenty First Century Updated & Expanded Edition

This is a great book for someone who wants to understand how the world is changing as technology and business change and how that influences people, culture, resources, government, etc. For someone who is not fluent in business, government and technological developments (but trying very hard to understand), it is unintimidatingly written, straightforward and easy to understand. A great perspective on outsourcing and good insight as to how politics/government should and maybe should not get involved, what Americans can expect if we continue as is and suggested changes for the future, and how parts of the rest of the world is changing. Highly recommended.

Given to me by a coworker for a Christmas exchange gift - one of the best exchange gifts I have ever gotten. Heartbreaking and funny. A fast, enjoyable, and at times, educational read.

I'm not going to go over anything plot-wise the dust cover doesn't, I'm just going to tell you that if this book interests you, DON'T LET the (I think) corny cover turn you off. Read it! I couldn't put it down. And I don't even like horses.
