Dizz Tate: Books That Made Me Want to Write: Dizz Tate’s Bookshelf for Brutes (0 comment)
When I was writing my book, Brutes, there came a point where I wanted to be thinking about it even when I was so tired of it I couldn’t bear to look at it anymore. I was also terrified of leaving it alone, like the book would forget me if I stopped reminding it I was there...

Ender's Game: Ender Wiggin Saga 1 by Orson Scott Card
    CMB, September 05, 2011
This is a fantastic futuristic book that leads you through Ender Wiggins life as a "third". The third child of the Wiggins family. His family was allowed to have more than the usual two in hopes that they would produce the next commander who could save the Earth. It is purposely vague but slowly unravels and is thrilling as it becomes clearer and clearer.

Guys Read: Funny Business by Jon Scieszka
    CMB, June 25, 2011
What a great collection of short stories for kids! Well not just for kids and not just for guys either, as the book claims. The stories are fabulous and laugh-out-loud funny. My son can't wait to get the others. #2 is "Thrillers". I have to say I can't wait either.

    Sleepless by Charlie Huston
    CMB, January 22, 2011
A great thriller/mystery of sorts. I thoroughly enjoyed this futuristic post-apocalyptic novel. You want to know why and what and how the whole way through. It takes you into a world that is both believable and unbelievable. It reminded me in some ways of The Stand - with a great cast of characters and bits that tug at your heart.

Magicians Book 1 by Lev Grossman
    CMB, January 14, 2011
This was a book I wanted to race through but didn't want to end either. The characters were so relatable, heartbreakingly so. It's been compared to Potter and Narnia but while it does tip it's hat in both of those directions it has a flavor and feel all its own. Plus it is very much an adult book with sex, drugs and rock 'n roll. Two out of three at any rate.

The Ruins of Gorlan by John A Flanagan
    CMB, January 12, 2011
My 9 yr old son has read all 9 in the series and is anxiously awaiting the 10th. I have read them as well and I'm waiting right along with him. These are books that have adventure, danger, humor, friendship and fun. Frankly they make you want to be a ranger! Superb writing and cast of characters this is a series well worth reading, no matter your age.
