Planting the Wild Garden

Planting the Wild Garden is both beautiful and informative. It tells and show the story of how seeds are planting by wind, by birds, by water, and more. The illustrations are lovely, while also conveying specific information about how seeds travel and grow. This is also a book that gently shows humans in their place as co-inhabitants, co-nurturers of the Earth. At the end, readers will find a bibliography for further reading!

Hark a Vagrant is a smart and funny comic...that's also not afraid to be silly. Really silly. This collection will be a hit with fans both old and new. Highly recommended!

This is a beautiful book, both in art and in story. It will inspire wonder! For those intrigued by these subnivean animals, there are more details about each in the final pages of the book, as well as recommended further reading. Enjoy!

This is a well-crafted, compelling novel that gives voice to a perspective not often found in such excellent books. This is not the sort of book that I usually pick up and the awkward title didn't help...but I'm so glad I read it and eagerly await more from this author. Highly recommended!

Curious Garden
by
Peter Brown
Emma Peabody
, September 06, 2009
The Curious Garden is a beautiful story of a kid named Liam and what happens when he finds "a lonely patch of color" in a quite bleak city. Liam's earnest, quietly confident determination is just right and this is a great book for kids and adults alike. There's an inspiring, practical message here and absolutely no preachiness. Wonderful illustrations tie it all together. You'll love it!

Fly Like A Butterfly Yoga For Children
by
Shakta Kaur Khalsa
Emma Peabody
, August 24, 2008
Shakta Kaur Khalsa is an expert on sharing yoga with children and this book is great! (She wrote another book called Kundalini Yoga which is excellent for teenagers and adults, too.) In this book, she's created little stories. As you tell the stories, you (and the kids) do corresponding yoga poses/movements that illustrate them. I haven't tried this with kids yet, but they seem like they'd be fun and not forced or corny. What makes this book different than many others is that its basis is kundalini yoga. Kundalini shares a lot with other types of yoga, but you'll also find some things here that are more specific to it. As a lover of kundalini yoga, this is a plus to me! (And I know I'll be thinking of "riding the camel" or "the washing machine" when doing my next spinal warm-up series. ;)

It was the cover of this book and then Neil Gaiman's review that first drew me to this book. And I'm so glad! I recommend this book for all ages and definitely adults. It's wise, clever, funny, touching, and spiritually satisfying. This is now one of my favorite books ever!

Freedom Manifesto How to Free Yourself from Anxiety Fear Mortgages Money Guilt Debt Government Boredom Supermarkets Bills Mela

I highly recommend this funny, wise, and inspiring book to YOU! Before you know it, you'll be coming up with idea after idea about how to free yourself from the never ending drudgery of the capitalist machine and begin to really enjoy life. One weak point in the book, to my mind, is that the author over romanticizes the Medieval Catholic Church. I understand why he does it, but I think it detracts a little from the book overall. With that one downside, I still give this 5 stars! Excellent book!

Chez Moi

I'll be honest. When I picked up this book, I thought it was just another Woman Starts Restaurant/Bakery books. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy those books a lot. The more graphically (pornographically?) the breads and spices are described, the better! But they do tend to be light reading. This book was much more than I expected and a delightful surprise. It's got all the great food-lover aspects, but also more serious and dramatic elements. It leaves you feeling good, though. I definitely recommend it.

This is an excellent and highly addictive series. (Start at volume one!) Volume 7 is another winner - full of the depth, twists, and humor fans will expect. I don't want to give anything away about the plot, but I highly recommend this volume...and the whole series!

Earth Prayers From Around the World 365 Prayers Poems & Invocations for Honoring the Earth
by
Elizabeth Roberts, Elias Amidon
Emma Peabody
, April 15, 2008
It may be that some little root of the sacred tree still lives. Nourish it then, that it may leaf and bloom and fill with singing birds. --Black Elk This is a peaceful book of Earth-centered quotes from a variety of sources. Many of very beautiful! A lot of them refer to a Creator (God, Great Spirit, etc.), so this book is particularly good if that appeals to you. There are also more general, nature-focussed quotes for others of us. All in all, a lovely little book.

Great story about a young woman who gets side-tracked by a crush, but in the end re-finds her personal power and rhythm. And it's really funny. Don't read the whole description - it gives too much of the story away! Trust me - this is worth a read!

How did I go this long without knowing about Peter Blegvad and Leviathan?? Fans of the surreal, words, philosophy, and quirky comic strips (maybe Zippy the Pinhead or Lio) will love this.

Sorcerers & Secretaries 01

This is a sweet, but not saccharine, story of love, fantasy, writing, and following your bliss. Don't be fooled by the cover - this is a more subtle and complex story than you might expect. Wonderful illustrations and a gripping tale. Have the second volume on hand, because this one ends on a cliff-hanger!

Taking Things Seriously 75 Objects with Unexpected Significance
by

I liked the idea behind this collection of photos and tiny essays, but the execution exceeded my expectations! (That's on its way to a tongue twister!) The essays are funny, wise, and touching without being sappy. And they avoid being drenched in irony as so much nostalgia is these days. Beautiful little tributes. You will not be disappointed!

To be honest, I picked up this book because of it's shape (including the rounded edges) and cover art. The back cover description sounded OK, so I gave it a try. What a great find! This little book was really enjoyable - sweet, thoughtful, and surprisingly hilarious. Give it a try!

Wood Wife

The Wood Wife is a truly engrossing story and one of those books I was sorry to see end (though I was also anxious to see how the tale would progress)! Terri Windling's skills as a poet are put to beautiful use in this book. I highly recommend this for fans of lore and myth, magic, poetry, and mystery!
