A House in the Sky

This is the story of sadness and unending hope. It is the heartbreaking story of torture beyond belief imposed by Somali rebels on two young photographers. Their 13 months of imprisonment waiting for a 2 million dollar ransom made a testament for all prisoners held against their will. The descriptions of Amanda"s travels in India, Costa Rica and South America could make a good travel brochure. This book is hard to read at times, but one that will stay with me forever.

The Ice Princess (Fjällbacka #1)

This is a mystery comparable to The Girl With The Dragon Tatoo. The characters get a little complex but the plot is twisted as the Norwegian authors tend to do. I thought this book was a page turner and worthy of an award.

This is a book that is hard to put down. The author seems inexperienced to attempt the Pacific Crest Trail, but has read a great deal on preparation. Her adventure takes the reader through many difficult situations and her determination and zest for the goal make the book an exciting read.

Cammie Mcgovern is a surprisingly good author - an easy to read book, very free flowing. This is a different kind of mystery and I enjoyed the flash backs which were necessary to the story line.

This amazing little book packs a real wallop. It's a story that will haunt you long after the last page is read. Chris Cleave has woven humor and poignant description in the tragedy and loneliness of refugee existence.

The Stolen Child
by
Donohue, Keith

I do not usually enjoy books dealing with the fantasy world, however, Donohue had me riveted from the first page. The alternating stories of two boys' lives, one boy replaced by the life of a forest fairy boy, make for an intriguing, absorbing story. The lives of both boys seem destined to intertwine at any moment, but it isn't until the very end that their worlds collide. It is beautifully written and contains some memorable and poignant comments on life.

Sunflowers

This work of fiction relates details little known about Van Gogh. It is written in the voice of his long-time friend, "Mademoiselle Rachel". working at Rue du Bout d'Arles, a well established brothel in Paris. Throughout the book are sprinkled his paintings and how he came to paint his most famous "Sunflowers". I enjoyed reading this book and had a hard time remembering it is fiction.
