Five Book Friday: In Memoriam
(0 comment)
Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. I highly recommend digging into the recommendations — we would never lead you astray — but today...

What I Read
by

I have an earlier incarnation of this tiny journal and I LOVE it. I've filled it's pages with details of all the books I've read, good and bad, over the past 3 years and am ready to start a new one. I love looking back to see what I've read thru the years. The only reason I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 is the same reason I'd like to give it a 6. The size. It's wonderfully compact, which creates the single drawback: not a lot of room for notes on the books. It should be thought of as a tracking device rather than a journal, really. Highly recommend it.

Sewn by Hand Two Dozen Projects Stitched with Needle & Thread
by
Susan Wasinger
Vicki W
, January 15, 2012
This book is exactly what it says: 2 dozen projects that are "Sewn By Hand." In a time when many of us are trying to find ways to reconnect to a more simple time with deeper, more personal values, Susan Wasinger's words and projects hit a pleasant chord. What could be more back-to-the-basics than this? A needle, thread, some fabric, a quiet corner and some time is all you need to create Susan's sweet projects. Basic hand stitching techniques are outlined in the first pages, followed by beautiful photographs, detailed instructions and conversational prose. This is an absolute gem of a book and I'm excited to meander my way through all of the projects.
