Refreshingly unusual, witty, macabre, funny, quirky, shocking, revolting, engrossing, and clever, Blackbirds is my very favorite book read in 2012. Chuck Wendig is a writer I will watch and follow - also enjoy his website / blog. Miriam is the character of the year - expertly created and bursting with life. I have never read Chuck Pahleniuk? but I'm thinking his readers must enjoy quirky, and would enjoy Wendig. I had to let you know about this deliciously wicked find of mine.

I can't believe I am the first to comment on this book - it is simply fabulous. In the last two years I've been focusing on reading Young Adult titles in the paranormal, fantasy, and science fiction genres and I have ready many, many YA titles - my favorites being this book, Beautiful Creatures, Liar, Wings, PC Cast, Alyson Noel, and of course, the Twilight Series. I like Origin better than all - and imagine this is how the first reader encountered Hunger Games at first reading. I loved the world-building, the characters, the dialogue, and found it a mesmerizing story. I noted that I liked this one better than Shiver, and I did. I vote this author as one to watch and can't wait until the next in the series.

Never have I felt so drawn into the hearts of two characters as I did April and Oliver. Tess Callahan's writing is immediate and ethereal. You feel the characters every step of the way. A dark, very modern Romeo and Juliet for the 21st century.

Twilight fans need look no further than Freda Warrington's Elfland for more of what they love. Elfland is imaginative, frightening, sensual, evil, engrossing, and magical. The "fairy" or "elf" characters live side-by-side with humans on earth, yet also experience a separate, parallel universe -- Dusklands -- which I find fascinating and astonishing. Ms. Warrington's rare talent absolutely shines in this novel. This was my first experience with this author, and I'm glad I found her. Highly recommended to all!
