Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. Sting Ray Afternoons A Memoir

I read an excerpt in Sports Illustrated and it was like going back in time. Though I cannot claim me and my friends did the exact same things, there are similarities and it brings back great memories of summers, BMX bicycles, "over-the-line, and trips to 7-11 for slurpees & candy!

This is a great book for fans and collectors! I found out I have over $2000 worth of Hot Wheels if I could sell them all for what the field guide claims, but I'm keeping them for now!

Terrible Glory Custer & the Little Bighorn The Last Great Battle of the American West
by
James Donovan
Sean Harkess
, July 15, 2008
"A Terrible Glory" by James Donovan adds greatly to the vast literature and study of General Custer and the plains Indian wars. Not having read specifically about General Custer (I have read Robert Utley's bio of Sitting Bull, "The Lance and the Shield" and "Killing Custer" by James Welch) this book gives a fair and balanced history of Custer's service in the military including the Civil War and the influence he had on fighting the Sioux and other tribes and also a detailed vivid account of the Battle of the Little Bighorn for which Custer is so infamous. In addition to the main story of the Little Bighorn battle, this book gives wonderful descriptions of the people involved in this chapter of American history, from Libbie Custer, President Grant, General Sherman and the men who served with Custer and the Indians who fought for their way of life. Donovan's footnotes alone tell background stories that add richly to his main story and I would recommend this book to anyone interested in American History and great storytelling!
