Dizz Tate:
Books That Made Me Want to Write: Dizz Tate’s Bookshelf for Brutes
(0 comment)
When I was writing my book,
Brutes
, there came a point where I wanted to be thinking about it even when I was so tired of it I couldn’t bear to look at it anymore. I was also terrified of leaving it alone, like the book would forget me if I stopped reminding it I was there...

Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake
by
Aimee Bender

The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake is such a delightful read...I actually went out and bought more of Aimee Bender's books right away so I didn't have to stop. The writing is great, but the ideas and the possibilities she creates for her characters are even better. Her characters' choices are mind-bending and super fun to read at the same time. Excellent summer reading.

Run
by
Patchett, Ann

Truthfully, I could not get myself to finish Patchett's acclaimed novel Bel Canto, but Run was spectacular! The events in the book occur over the course of 24 hours, and I didn't even notice that detail until the end. But I sure felt it. I was reading Run when I should have been sleeping.

Good People Everywhere

This is such a sweet little book. In a culture saturated by media reports of all the not-so-good things going on in the world, Good People Everywhere gives kiddos colorful and beautiful visuals of all the truly good things that are happening every day, in their families, their neighborhoods and their communities. I especially love the ending as it confirms that the reader will also do good things and encourages thinking about what that will actually be. Lynea Gillen is a gifted with kiddos both in person and on the page.
