Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. I highly recommend digging into the recommendations — we would never lead you astray — but today...

The Host

We are obviously all Stephanie Meyer fans, although 'Twilight' is amazing, I cannot say the same for 'The Host'. This book does not grasp the reader like 'Twilight', which makes for a longer read. Characters not as lovable either. Okay book to read while we're waiting for 'Breaking Dawn' I guess.

I just finished Eldest, I can't believe how long I put off reading it, and I am truly impressed again by Christopher Paolini's dedication to his story, and keeping the reader's interest in the second book. It totally picks up at the same pace as the first. This one is going to be soooooo awesome! I can't wait. If you haven't read Eragon or Eldest, then you better get to it! You're missing out!!!!

If your mom ignores you and you have to lie to get attention, then I guess you would like this book.... whatever... bleh. Unremarkable despite the title. Pretty depressing, go sit in a corner and read this book. Hate sounding like a cynic, and wish I had better words, but I've read a lot of books. I guess I'm pretty hard to impress.

Fox rocks! Out of all the books I read as a kid, this is one of the few memorable ones. Perfect for beginning readers. Check out the other Fox books too!

Ida B & Her Plans to Maximize Fun Avoid Disaster & Possibly Save the World

This is a really stupid book. I hate how adults assume kids will read another average simple plotted coming of age story. I guess this is a good book for a 5th grader. You should get some real actual kids to make your "kids picks" list.
