Bone To Pick Aurora Teagarden 02
by
Charlaine Harris

This is the second book in the Aurora Teagarden series by Charlaine Harris and it is a great one! "Roe" Teagarden is itching for something new in her life, but gets more than she asked for when she becomes the beneficiary of a house when a good friend dies. New love and secrets from her friends past keep Roe busy in A Bone to Pick.

Fool & His Honey Aurora Teagarden 06

I am a huge fan of Charlaine Harris and especially of her Aurora Teagarden series. Aurora "Roe" is a great character and in A Fool and His Honey she and her new husband are in danger when his past and relatives come back to haunt him. This book is one of my favorite Teagardens and one of the most painful to read with a very surprising ending that makes you jump up and beg for the next book to see what happens next.

Ender's Game: Ender Wiggin Saga 1
by
Orson Scott Card

I'm a recent fan of sci-fi and fantasy books, and Ender's Game should be required reading for the genre, parents, and kids. I was truly surprised by this story. Though deeply impressed with the way Card described the inner thoughts of a child-genius, I just wanted to give Ender a hug and a cookie, and let him play outside before going back to saving the world.

Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell
by
Susanna Clarke
sarasquare
, October 14, 2008
I'm a huge fan of classics from 18th and 19th century, and though Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell was written in the 21st century, it certainly has that classic style with a modern-sarcastic twist. Clarke's characters are well-rounded; some endearing, some mysterious. There is a great blend of the magical and practical worlds in this story. This is a really fun, dark, and surprising book.

The Hunger Games: Hunger Games 1
by
Suzanne Collins
sarasquare

The Hunger Games completely took me by surprise. I had been looking for something new to read and this book was recommended. The story is about personal and physical sacrifice to protect one's family, but is set in such a cruel set of circumstances. It is unnerving to read as characters come to like and respect each other at the same time that they are trying to kill each other. The attention to detail, thought process and emotions are amazing and I fell in love with Katniss and Peta. I was so excited when I got to the end and discovered that The Hunger Games is only Book One in what I hope will be a long series. I can't wait for the next!

Twilight 03 Eclipse
by
Stephenie Meyer
sarasquare
, October 10, 2008
In Eclipse, Meyer shows that it is possible to experience real love more than once, and sometimes simultaneously. It is heart-wrenching to read about Bella, Edward, and Jacob being pulled in different directions. Though I'm not a fan of vampires and werewolves, it is the love story that overpowers everything else and makes this book and series truly amazing.

Twilight: Twilight 1
by
Stephenie Meyer
sarasquare
, October 10, 2008
Although I was hesitant to read Twilight, since it seemed to be a favorite with young teens and was about vampires, I am so incredibly glad that I did. Meyer has such talent with writing emotions and enabling her readers to experience those emotions with her characters. I have now read and re-read Twilight and the rest of the series several times, as well as Meyer's other works, and am eagerly awaiting her next.

Breaking Dawn: Twilight 4
by
Stephenie Meyer
sarasquare
, October 10, 2008
I greatly enjoyed Breaking Dawn as the final book in the Twilight series. The separate "books" within the book gave great insight into Bella's and Jacob's characters, and all the new and frightening events that brought all the characters closer were amazing. Although I wish that Jacob could have had a better ending, I'm pleased with where Meyer left her characters.

Brisingr: Or, the Seven Promises of Eragon Shadeslayer and Saphira Bjartskular: Inheritance Cycle 3
by
Christopher Paolini
sarasquare
, October 10, 2008
I was definitely hoping for a bit more with this third installment of the Inheritance cycle. Paolini has definitely grown up a bit more in his writing. He answered a lot of nagging questions from the first books and introduce some great new twists and ideas. However, I think that he wasted a lot of time in the first half of the book with unnecessary details and took too long to continue with the story line and get to that action in the second half. If the final book is anything like Brisingr, then I would have to disagree with his decision to split the last book into two, since it seems Brisingr could be half its current length and still be the exact same story.

The Host
by
Stephenie Meyer
sarasquare
, August 31, 2008
I'm a huge fan of the Twilight series, but The Host was something special all on its own. Stephenie Meyer is very good at letting her readers form attachments to her characters. I think we can all relate to the emotions she writes, even though some of her characters are surpernatural. I'm in no way a Sci-fi/fantasy fan, but I will be keeping both eyes open for more from Meyer.

I read this book more than 15 years ago and the story has stayed with me ever since. I love the way the relationships between the characters are portrayed. This book is sweet, sad, exciting and warm. I would recommend it to any child, friend, or parent.
