Alex & Me How a Scientist & a Parrot Discovered a Hidden World of Animal Intelligence & Formed a Deep Bond in the Process
by
Pepperberg, Irene

, December 15, 2008
This is the story of a scientist's long association with Alex, the African Grey parrot she studied for 30 years. Alex did not just "parrot" an amazing vocabulary. He demonstrated an ability to think, feel, and yes, even love. Recommended!

Ghost In Love
by
Jonathan Carroll

, December 12, 2008
This is another mind-bending read from Jonathan Carroll, master of magical realism and the "urban fantasy" genre. Complete with a talking dog, this novel kept me intrigued through its many twists and turns.

Nothing Personal Seeing Beyond the Illusion of a Separate Self
by
Nirmala
cindyl
, October 08, 2008
This book is bound be of interest to readers of Ramana Maharishi, Eckhart Tolle, Byron Katie, and other spiritual teachers that focus on living in the "now." Nirmala's writing is hardly esoteric. His advice is resonant and practical.

For those who enjoy time-travel books, this is a solid pick with a plot that matters: what if you could go back in time and prevent the Holocaust?

Essential Laws of Fearless Living Find the Power to Never Feel Powerless Again
by
Guy Finley
cindyl
, October 06, 2008
Guy Finley offers bare bones spiritual teaching without the woo-woo factor. Franklin Roosevelt famously said that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself. What would it be like to live as if we really believed that? Guy Finley gives us a glimpse, and practical advice.
