Mayor Of Casterbridge
by
Thomas Hardy

I read an abridged copy of the book about 6 years ago. I love Hardy's style of writing. I very enjoyed his descriptions of the landscapes and villages. His character descriptions were great. The novel felt a bit like a movie to me because his writing made it a very visual experience. For me the best parts of the book were the descriptions of the Dorset countryside, the clothes the people wore and the detail of the old buildings in Casterbridge and the surrounding area. What a coincidence that I arrived to Dorchester about a month ago to visit my boyfriend and found out that the city of Dorchester was actually Casterbridge, in the novel.
