Five Book Friday: In Memoriam
(0 comment)
Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. I highly recommend digging into the recommendations — we would never lead you astray — but today...

Invention of Hugo Cabret A Novel in Words & Pictures

Being a K-8 librarian I am exposed to my different areas of childrens books. This books stands out from them all. The way Selnick's illustrations carry on the story to the way fact is mixed with fiction makes this a book that is very hard to put down. I read it with the 3rd to 8th grade students at my schoool and it even captured my most reluctant readers, across that wide age range. I would recommend anyone at any age to get lost in Paris with Hugo.

My husband and I really enjoy this book and have made many of the recipes together. The recipes are fantastic and the differences in how each Julia and Jacques do things part of the charm of this book. This is a must check out if you enjoy food and it's preparation!

I can only say that I am a K-8 librarian that has been patiently waiting for it, while my students have madly been asking "Do you have Last Straw yet?". We can't wait to get it. Based on the first two books I do not think we will be disappointed.
