Harper C.:
Five Book Friday: Uncanny Graphic Novels
(0 comment)
We are in the thick of winter here in the Pacific Northwest, which means it's dark, damp, and chilly. Rather than escaping to stories with warmer, brighter climates, I personally want nothing more than to dive deep into gothic and uncanny fiction as the wind rattles my windows at night...

Oh, to be young and in Paris! Elaine Dundy takes us on an engaging journey with this book's young heroine as she navigates the Paris scene in the late nineteen-fifties. The characters, the plot, everything is spot on. A coming of age book in the best sense!

Women in Clothes

Are you interested in fashion and clothing? Do you long for a new written perspective on the subject, something different than the tired chorus of what you should wear and why? This is the book for you! Part survey, part narrative, part inventory, part artwork, editors Heti, Julavits and Shapton bring together a diverse collection of perspectives (everyone from rabbis to garment workers) on the act of wearing clothing and what it means. This book was utterly fascinating.

Perfectly eerie, this novel holds your attention to the very end. And what an end it is!

Letters to Emma Bowlcut

This short volume by much adored musical artist Callahan is a beautiful work of fiction. It is vague and mysterious, yet very telling of the human experience.
