Powell's Staff: New Literature in Translation: December 2022 and January 2023 (0 comment)
It may be a new year, this may be a list of new books, but our love for literature in translation hasn’t changed at all, and we are so pleased to be enthusiastically recommending these recent releases. On this list, you’ll find a Spanish novel where controversy swirls around a Coca-Cola billboard...

Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Book 1 by Stieg Larsson, Denise Mina, Andrea Mutti
    EatYourHead, January 01, 2013
This series was so much fun to read. I couldn't put it down and I couldn't wait to read the next in the series. So sad there's no more.

Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake by Aimee Bender
    EatYourHead, January 01, 2012
Completely unexpected from Aimee Bender, after reading many of her short stories. It has a sweetness that is not sentimental, especially when it enters the second half of the book and takes you into a strange, sad, perplexing place. The story of a young girl, who discovers a talent for being able to taste the emotions in food of whomever cooked it. This leads to discoveries about her family that she would rather not know. A wonderful metaphor for coming of age and the time when as a child, you realize the fallibility of adults.

Blood Bones & Butter The Inadvertent Education of a Reluctant Chef by Gabrielle Hamilton
    EatYourHead, September 02, 2011
A truly delicious and very personal memoir about growing up to become a chef. Hamilton took a very interesting route to her final destination of opening and running her restaurant, Prune, in NY. The opening chapter about her childhood is enchanting, hilarious and heart-wrenching. A thoroughly enjoyable read.
