Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. Vibrant Years

This book deals with the lives of three generations of one family. Bindu Desai, Alisha Desai, and Cullie Desai. Each has her own issues and own set of problems but they stand by each other and hold each other as well as the novel up. Some of the situations might be somewhat unrealistic but the light reading keeps one engrossed.

Richard Paul Evans' books are like comfort food for the soul. In this book two kindred souls hunt for each other. The ending is not unexpected but the book does its job of providing good reading for a brief time.

At first I felt this book was not as good as 'the happiness project;' but soon I realized the value of this one. I guess I'd expected it to be more humorous than it was. The books did make some very astute comments like "working is the most dangerous form of procrastination." So true in this techno age.

One of the best books I've read in a long time. The story deals with crime, justice, passion, loyalty, mistakes, forgiveness, and above all love. Anything I add will detract from the story; suffice it to say I was teary eyed at some points. A must read.

Somebody Up There Hates You

I have read over 80 books this year and this book moved me the most. This story talks of Richard and Sylvie, teenagers, who have "Somebody Up There Hates You" syndrome. They are kids with cancer and in a hospice. What is different from them and other hospice residents is that they are still teenagers and despite their angst behave for the most part like teenagers. The book is poignant and funny at the same time and even raunchy but I could not complain about the raunchiness because it was totally in keeping with the characters. There is a lot of drama at the end and I would have to say a real tearjerker but don't let that deter you. Whether you are a boy or girl or an adult this book is a must read.

This is the first book I've read in this series. I was a little concerned that there is so much importance attached to paranormal activities. Once I got beyond my unease I quite enjoyed the book. It'll certainly appeal to tweens regardless of whether they are into Paranormal events or not. The story line is strong and the ending comforting.
