Calming Your Angry Mind

If you think, "I'm not an angry person, I don't need to read this book," wait! This book is about a lot more than just anger. It explains the concept of Mindfulness and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, - something that we could all use. I learned a lot of useful practices but the most important thing I learned was that "being angry at your anger does not help." The Practice exercises were great, particularly bringing the exercises into daily life. I will really cherish this book.

Killer An Alex Delaware Novel
by
Jonathan Kellerman

This is an interesting book. The plot is rather far-fetched and the "killee," for lack of a better word, is surprising but the killer is not! The motivation for the killings is so weak that at the end of the book I had a vague sense of dissatisfaction. All in all however, it was a well told book which kept me turning pages till I got to the end.

Canada
by
Richard Ford

A well-written novel by the Pulitzer Prize Winning author Richard Ford, "Canada" talks of life in a unique way. Dell Parsons and his twin Berner's life are thrown into disarray when their parents are arrested for a bank robbery. The author portrays the life of 15 year old Dell in remarkable fashion and tells us his view of the rough life in the prairies of Canada. Perhaps he sums his views up best when he says, "..the only difference between one place on the earth and another: how you think about the people, and the difference it makes to you to think that way." A must read and must own for you are sure to get new meaning each time you read it.

Middle School 02 Get Me out of Here

A well-written children's book about Rafe's year at Cathedral Art School. The author has portrayed the life of a middle schooler really well and the pictures highlight the story. While for the most part the story is kid friendly and funny there are some poignant areas when Rafe ensures he doesn't hurt his mom or tries to learn about his dad. This would make a wonderful Birthday or Christmas gift.

Monday Mornings
by
Sanjay Gupta

It doesn't surprise me at all that this book is a bestseller. While it purports to be a novel it could well be a behind the scenes look at any teaching hospital. The main players in the book are surgeons in Chelsea General. The title refers to the Morbidity and Mortality conferences held at 6 AM on Mondays. "Monday Mornings were sacred. They were there to save lives. To learn from mistakes," says Gupta. Indeed the book shows the human side of Doctors - the compassionate human being who is not above making mistakes. Yes, the best of doctors are far from infallible and he/she needs to move on when he/she makes a mistake. All in all a page-turner and a keeper.
