China Mieville continues to dazzle with this gripping fantasy of a giant squid and other molluscs. How does a giant squid disappear-and why is there a religion based on worship of the giant squid?

This book is as elegantly written as the title suggests. The author spares no part of the French bourgeois in this carefully crafted exploration of an unlikely reader.

City & the City

China Mieville is one of the reasons I still try to read fantasy/science fiction. There is so much pseudo-Tolkein pastiche stuff, and sequel upon sequel of repetitive rubbish, that I despair. Mieville is an original voice and anything new by him is worth reading. I have only begun reading his work this year, and it is so refreshing to have someone who has a real world, that is yet fantastic. I cant rate it yet because I have not yet read it-if I can change this I will, once I have.
