This book is transforming our fifth graders. As I read it aloud in our library lessons, it is opening our minds to how we can choose KINDNESS in all our responses with others. This is a life changing book.

Jean M. Auel has such an amazing sense of story and her research gives this novel vivid details. I want to sneak into Ayla's primeval cave and experience her courage as she tackles survival skills.

We Are in a Book: An Elephant and Piggie Book

I have been touched by the positive impact of this book on the many learners at our elementary school in Virginia. "We are in a Book" was just voted as our school community's favorite picture book of the year. We have created paper bag puppets of elephant and piggie. The students love working on their fluency oral reading skills with this amazing beginning reader book. This is a title that begs and almost pleads with the reader to go through the pages over and over again. Two thumbs up from this library teacher----

Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks

This is a great book not only about a growing problem with science research, but it also gives interesting insight into the condition of living in black America in the 50s. The author does an excellent job of mixing Henrietta's personal life with the contribution her cells have made to science. Great book!
