13 Bodies: Seven Tales of Murder & Madness
by
Thom Reese
Stephen Degnim
, October 02, 2015
Seven tales to rattle your peaceful night. Thom Reese spins these tales swift and adeptly. Great characters on a short span, he builds them with such style you know them. You feel their predicaments. I thought these tales were complete and generous for short stories. There was nothing to dislike about this collection. It did occur to me at times I was listening to old time radio broadcast. Give these tales a read, you won't be disappointed

The Hunter from the Woods
by
McCammon, Robert
Stephen Degnim
, September 28, 2015
A teller of tales, Robert McCammon delivers again. The Hunter From the Woods is collection of tales intertwined of missions for Michael Gallatin, the man wolf from Russia. This tale all began in the first book Wolf's Hour, where Michael has been transformed into lycan. He has been drawn in as a secret weapon to infiltrate and exterminate the Nazi's with extreme prejudice. The characters are well developed and driven. Both books are written with great prose with violence and passion. Riveting thr ...more

Thom Reese

, September 05, 2015
Another riveting story by Thom Reese, author of the Empty. Having been forced back into service Marc " Hunt ' Huntington, former Delta Force commander leaving in disgrace. Sent to rescue an innocent boy from the hands of a tribal leader as a pawn in this relentless thriller of a warring province in Botma, Africa. Dealing with his demons of the pass Marc treks through the a maze of deception and intrigue, to complete his mission and return to his "normal " life. As Marc encounters the deceptions of his mission, his estranged wife , Dana, is on the trail of a bazaar serial killer that has history with her. This book is certainly fast paced, and unrelenting in its suspenseful twists and turns, well worth your time to grab this book and join Marc and Dana on the journey from a dark distance.

Devil's Breath
by
Greg F. Gifune
Stephen Degnim
, August 12, 2015
A great read, flowing prose. Greg Gifune takes the reader on a journey through Stanley Falks nightmares, with the ferocity of a mad dog. Unrelenting terror and self doubt puts Stanley into a whirlpool of madness. A madness he cannot escape. Pulse pounding page after page. Greg's use of the word pool is phenomenal. He paints a picture of a lonely soul with a dark past with no future. An enthralling read from the "phone call". to his unexpected unwanted new "family", I found this tale a fascinating exploration into the minds "eye". Grab this book and hop on for a ride to the darkside.

Tin Men
by
Christopher Golden

, July 23, 2015
Now this was a ride through pages of non stop action. With near future premise of the United States keeping peace around the world. That future isn't that far off, with what is going on in the world today. Christopher Golden has nailed it. As I was drawn deeper into the story, I was reminded of the U.S. in similar police actions, as with Korea and Vietnam. With a group called anarchists, trying to stop the good. This definitely should be on the big screen, and I see video games. Grab this book and go. .

Finders Keepers
by
Stephen King
Stephen Degnim
, July 12, 2015
The second of King's Bill Hodge's trilogy, four years later. Hodge's takes on another nutcase. He weaves a tale of ordinary people in extraordinary situations. This time an obsessive reader after writer , the likes of J.D. Salinger. The reader becomes enraged when the author stops mid stream with his tales of the character Jimmy Gold. At the hands of his biggest fan, Morris Bellamy, John Rothstein the author, is relieved of his stash of cash and his unpublished manuscripts. He hides the cash and manuscripts away from prying eyes. After a night of drinking Bellamy is imprisoned for acts unrelated to his visit with Rothstein. Years follow and a new family live in Bellamy's old home. Out exploring Pete Staubers finds the hidden treasure and what follows is non stop edge of your seat thriller. Highly recomended . Hold onto your seat.

The Horror... the Horror
by
Rick Hautala
Stephen Degnim
, July 04, 2015
Rick Hautla's written word about his writing life and the writing life in general, I found inspiring and down to earth. His writing schedules, his ups and downs, his experiences are told with simple prose and at the same time enthusiastic. Raw advice served up to my delight. An excellent story and with great insight into the world of a writer, and he was a great raconteur. Left us too young, he had so much more to tell. By the way his take on ensuring nightmares and dreams, having a banana or tuna fish before bed really works. I find myself going sleep on any empty stomach a non eventful sleep, but with certain foods in your belly, prepare for mindful adventures when you succumb to sleep...

Revival
by
Stephen King
Stephen Degnim
, July 03, 2015
King as always, delivers. A master tailor of tales. Every page a stitch in his attempt to weave a nightmare to keep the reader awake. Revival is another in his wardrobe of books. A boy, a preacher and their interconnected lives criss cross in this novel, leading to a pitch perfect thriller. The town receives a new minister and his wife and son. His charismatic stature has the towns people enthralled with his sermons. Especially affected is a boy, Jaime. The new minister Charles Jacobs, and his deep interest in electricity, becomes his obsession after a personal tragedy. King leads the reader on a journey through Jaime's and Charles' lives climbing to the summit, and to a horrific end. Youth, addiction, obsession, religion, and what happens after we leave this world. A tale that will leave the reader wondering... Highly recommended.

by
Stephen King
Stephen Degnim
, April 28, 2015
Again the King does it again, but in the form of a crime. He puts the wheels in gear and the speed increases. The doors are locked and the reader is in it for the ride of their life. Retired cop Bill Hodges is being taunted by an unsolved case. The perp (perk), leads him on a run for his life, by hiding in plain sight. You will not be disappointed with this tale of an unrelenting antagonist. Read it!!

Murder as a Fine Art
by
David Morrell
Stephen Degnim
, June 30, 2013
David Morrell does it again, this time with a historical murder adventure mystery. England in the early 1800's an old mass murder is being copy catted over 40 yrs later. Great characters, the scenes come alive with his descriptive narrative and puts the reader on the streets with the constables and inspectors to solve it before the copy cat can wreak more fear and havoc in the city. A great read with non stop action and foreboding.

Five
by
Robert R Mccammon
Stephen Degnim
, March 18, 2012
Another great read from a fabulous raconteur. The story of a struggling band with members who have been around the block. Mr Mccammons prose is, as always, flowing. The characters well written with their own haunted pasts. Their music scratching at today's politics and war. Which affects some crazies of society. They are stalked by a misled sniper, determined to finish his mission. Mr Mccammon has written this character extremely well, as we feel for his confused position and the effects war has upon the human psyche. Full of suspense, supernatural, and horror. A well suggested book , must read.

An excellent read. A new twist on the dystopian novel. Nice characterization, dark. A vision of the twist on vampires. Thoroughly enjoyed this book and waiting for the next.
