Inhuman Resources: A Piper Steele Mystery
by
Rita a. Weinstein
Jerry D Riley
, December 06, 2012
2 for 1: An Entertaining Murder Mystery Thriller with a Social Message From the very first page I was enthralled by the fast moving, suspenseful and thrilling plot. What’s going to happen next to down and nearly out Seattleite Piper Steele and her homeless friends one wonders? The characters are as realistic and un-fictional as you’ll ever find in a work of fiction, while the story itself is so timely and eye-opening that it should be required reading for all legislators especially the reverse Robin Hoods who would balance budgets on the backs of the least among us. Till now practically all of my reading has been non-fiction but Rita Weinstein’s Inhuman Resources has cured me of that! Now I’m anxiously awaiting the sequel with the further adventures of Piper Steele and friends and hope that someday soon we’ll even be able to watch a movie based on this story. It’s that good!

Owning Our Future The Emerging Ownership Revolution
by
Marjorie Kelly, David C Korten
Jerry D Riley
, June 13, 2012
Many of us wonder if we, our children and grand children will even have a future much less own some part of one. Marjorie Kelly, in this important, brilliant and compelling book illuminates in her own inimitable, story telling way that all can understand, not only how we got into the financial and environmental messes we are still mired in but also how we can get out of them and how it's the system itself that is at fault and must be changed not just a few bad apples we seek to blame. In spite of what we are told, Kelly says there is an alternative (to capitalism or socialism). She shows us that already existing generative ownership companies not only survived but many thrived during the economic meltdown caused by the extractive system. Briefly, we the people as well as the creation itself are suffering from the cancer of our current capitalist or dominator ownership system which Kelly labels an extractive ownership system, the sole purpose of which is to extract as much wealth (=maximize corporate profits) as possible from our labor and the environment at the least possible risk (=deregulation) and least cost to itself (=lowest possible wage for us) as quickly as possible (=short term thinking and strategies). Every one else (that`s us), the environment and the future be damned. The sub prime mortgage shenanigans, the root of our current economic problems, are a classic example of the way the extractive systems create boom and bust cycles. Kelly's solution is the generative ownership model in which everyone has an ownership stake, shares in the profits (which will not be excessive as they now frequently are) and takes responsibility not only for themselves but also their brothers and sisters world wide and the very creation itself, our environment. This is a long term, sustainable, life supporting system. I'm so inspired and excited about the ideas in this book that I plan on spreading the word to libraries, friends and relatives, and obviously even to strangers like you; starting a book reading group and perhaps even a book signing event if it can be arranged. Read the book! Get inspired! Spread the word! Make change happen!

Extreme Prejudice the Terrifying Story of the Patriot Act & the Cover Ups of 9 11 & Iraq
by
Susan Lindauer
Jerry D Riley
, May 31, 2011
Susan Lindauer is first and foremost a tenacious peace activist and former CIA asset who has been called the American Cassandra because of her unheeded warnings about 9/11 and other events. She is also a victim of the Orwellian named USAPATRIOT Act, provisions of which were used to silence and imprison her to keep her from telling her story at a time when it could not only have brought down the Bush presidency but also exposed the true colors of Colin Powell, John McCain, Trent Lott, her second cousin Andrew Card and lots of others. From the time she was arrested by the FBI and indicted as an unregistered agent of Saddam Hussein, Susan begged for a trial where she could tell her side of the story and let the American public know what was being covered up. What she got instead was imprisonment inside Carswell Air Force Base in Texas where, shades of Stalin, she narrowly avoided attempts to forcibly drug her till such time as she changed her story. Her 5 year Patriot Act ordeal ended at the very end of the Bush presidency when all charges against her were dropped with the explanation that prosecuting her “would no longer be in the interests of justice.” She was deemed mentally incompetent to assist in her own defense by the prosecutor‘s psychiatrists and the judge accepted this purely phony psychiatry. Mind you Susan is a graduate of Smith College, the London School of Economics, was a reporter for two Seattle area newspapers, was on the staff of then Oregon Representatives Ron Wyden and Peter DeFazio yet was deemed incompetent to assist in her own defense. In the Alice in Wonderland World of the Patriot Act “secret charges” backed by “secret evidence” are permitted. It was alleged that Susan, for example, “sometime in October 2001” engaged in an unidentified action that violated an unidentified law. (Are any of us competent to assist in defending against such a charge?) Susan and her attorney could only speculate that this awful crime might have been her receipt of an Iraqi book detailing the devastating increase in birth defects and childhood cancer from depleted uranium munitions we used in the first Gulf War. [This would be highly relevant to anyone else (and their unborn children) who served in Iraq since they were likely subjected to the same serious health risks as the Iraqis. It smells of yet another Agent Orange type government cover up to prevent the expense of treating our military victims and/or their families.] Today the Patriot Act is being increasingly used by the Obama administration to punish and/or silence other government truth tellers who try to tell us what our government is really doing. If you are concerned about the direction our country is heading, I can think of no better way to begin the long, tortuous journey toward restoring our constitution and republic than to read and tell others about Extreme Prejudice, and then do everything you can think of to help get the monstrous, Orwellian-named USA PATRIOT Act repealed.
