Wildwood Chronicles 02 Under Wildwood
by
Colin Meloy, Carson Ellis

The Wildwood Chronicles are the only ~YA books I've read in years. I wish there had been a series such as fascinating and engaging as this when I was a kid (though, I was a pretty big Hank the Cowdog fan). Under Wildwood proved to be an excellent follow-up to the 1st.

I was pleasantly surprised by the clever originality of this novel. Few western novels manage to balance a gritty, sparse atmosphere with dark, witty humor - but deWitt easily accomplishes this feat. Easily the best book I've read this year.

Just My Type A Book about Fonts

As a self-taught graphic designer, I found this book to be a great resource. While it succeeds wonderfully in examining the history and origins of fonts, what impressed me most was just how entertaining Just My Type was - a quality I find some design books lack. I especially loved the chapter on 'worst fonts in the world' - I really hate Papyrus.

I must admit I typically stay away from anything labeled YA - but the work that Carson Ellis and Colin Meloy have put into this fantastic story sold me. I love it.
