The Namesake
by
Jhumpa Lahiri

Lahiri has a beautiful way of writing - flowy and descriptive, without being too verbose. I loved the way she wove in Gogol and how this became a main theme in the book. I also loved the descriptions of the interactions between generations. The entire book is completely captivating.

Diving Bell & the Butterfly A Memoir of Life in Death
by
Jean Dominiqu Bauby

The movie was a triumph, but the book is one of the most stunningly beautiful books i've ever read. It is so simple with touches of irony and humor. He gives good insight into what his life was like before the accident and what it became after.

Power Of One
by
Bryce Courtenay
Rhaye Heather
, August 03, 2007
Often said to be the book he's felt closest to, Courtenay writes about South Africa during it's troubled time of apartheid and the advent of World War II. The way he writes about the beauty of Africa and its' different tribes make you want to be there and experience what he's talking about first hand. But moreover, the beautiful story of Peekay and the incredible odds he must endure is the most touching of all. This book is somewhat autobiographical for Courtenay, so it gives insight into where he gets his inspiration for his writing.

My Losing Season
by
Pat Conroy
Rhaye Heather
, August 03, 2007
Conroy writes about his life in his typical manner - putting words together to make beautiful sentences and paragraphs. Reading this book, you realize where the sadness he writes with comes from, as he discusses his difficult childhood with a abusive father. But, like in his fiction writing, there is an underlying current of hope and beauty.

Harry Potter 07 & The Deathly Hallows
by
J.K. Rowling

I am glad to see that JK Rowling does not write the final book without some reality (as much as you can get in a book about witches and wizards). It is good to see that all the characters are growing up and are dealing with real issues of love and loss and life in general. Once again, Rowling does a wonderful job and wraps up the tale in a neat and tidy way.

Yet another incredible book by Mr. Courtenay! His descriptions of the landscape make you want to visit these places he writes about. His characters make you want to know them in person.

This is one of the most beautiful books. Her writing is simple and eloquent and her story is profoundly moving. This truly gives a better understanding of Muslim thinking, their motivations and why Muslim women need a voice.
