New Literature in Translation: December 2022 and January 2023
(0 comment)
It may be a new year, this may be a list of new books, but our love for literature in translation hasn’t changed at all, and we are so pleased to be enthusiastically recommending these recent releases. On this list, you’ll find a Spanish novel where controversy swirls around a Coca-Cola billboard...

Kind One
by
Hunt, Laird

Kind One is very unique and unlike any novel I had previously read involving slavery, class, and injustice in the American south. It covers about 100 years of the happenings and tragedies, told from multiple perspectives. Laird Hunt's writing is dreamlike and poetic, yet also brutally honest in discussing the horrors and redemption of one particular family. Highly recommend!

Paper Towns
by
John Green

Entertaining, thought-provoking, often frustrating, John Green's novel sheds light on the high school experience, first love, and growing up. Although the teenage jargon gets to be a bit much and the story drags in parts, Paper Towns is a modern and relevant bildungsroman that is worth a read.

Pieces for the Left Hand: 100 Anecdotes

Short stories have always been my favorite, and these ones in particular are gold! Only a page or two long, they are brief, real life stories one might tell to a friend over coffee or to entertain guests at dinner. Many are funny, some are nostalgic, and still others are downright strange. But they are all carefully crafted and wonderfully to the point.
