City of Lost Fortunes Crescent City Book 1 by Bryan Camp
    nicjas, June 01, 2018
I really enjoyed this book. Much in the same vein as Jim Butcher's Dresden Files series, yet I have to say I enjoyed this book a bit more. Great world building.

I really enjoyed this book. Having watched Scooby Doo as a child, I enjoyed the premise of what would happen if those meddling kids revisited the case that really got to them....

Brightest Fell October Daye Book 11 by Seanan Mcguire
    nicjas, September 18, 2017
The latest entry in the October Daye series. This series just keeps getting better and better. The world is a bit complicated and you definitely have to start from the beginning, but it is so worth it. One of my favorite series.

Strange Case of the Alchemists Daughter by Theodora Goss

I really enjoyed this story. Written with a lot of humor, but takes a look at who is worse: the monsters, or those that created them?

I just love this author. Her October Daye books are one of my favorite series and this book is definitely just as wonderful, if not more so. If you haven't read anything by Seanan Mcguire, this is a great story to start with. Absolutely lovely.

This is the second book in the Other Novels and it is just as unique as the first book. The author creates a very different world, and while it did take me a bit to get into the first book, I really loved the second one. Looking forward to the next in the series.

Chimes at Midnight October Daye 7 by Seanan Mcguire
    nicjas, September 16, 2013
This is one of those series that gets better and better with each installment. I absolutely love Toby and Tybalt: sometimes when two characters finally get together, their chemistry sags, and I lose interest. Not so with these two. I think it is because they took so long to get to get together and went through a lot that it really is about love for them. I felt it ended a bit abruptly, however, I know there will be more great books to come.

    Arrivals by Melissa Marr
    nicjas, September 10, 2013
The Arrivals is quite an unusual book, which I have come to expect from the author. While I'm not a fan of westerns, I loved the unique world in which the story was set, and the melding of fantasy and western. It was a quick, but enjoyable read. My only criticism is that I wish there was a second book to find out what happens to the characters.

Under the Dome by Stephen King
    nicjas, January 21, 2010
While this book is very long, it reads very fast. This is King back to his high point of "The Stand". There is a supernatural element to the story, but the focus is what happens with human nature when a town is cut off from the world. A must read for fans on King and others as well.

I have been waiting for the next book by David Sedaris and I was not disappointed by his latest. While some of the essays seem to end without any resolution, the majority are David's trade mark humor and sensitivity. Not his best book, but still very fun to read.

This book chronicals how those that did surive were able to do just that. It's an incredible book on survival and how to find meaning in our own lives.

Just Above My Head by James Baldwin
    nicjas, December 23, 2006
I took a class on Baldwin and having read all his fiction, this was the book that really struck me in everyway. It is a book about community, love, memory, and living in a world where being black could get you killed. Yet, overall, it is a book about being human with all that that entails.

Oh, my God!!!! This book was totally awesome!! I laughed so hard while reading this book as I too grew up during the '80s except on the west coast. While my experience was more KROQ and less Bruce Springstein, I could totally relate to her memories of the eighties and the great music and rock stars of that time. Loved this book.
