Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. Echo In The Darkness 02 Mark Of The Lion

This was such an amazing and heartfelt story. In the second book of the Mark of The Lion series, we follow Marcus on his journey to find God. He went through so many emotions that we all face with God - fear, doubt and anger, but ultimately love, peace and faith. I started this series out hesitant, and after finishing the second book, I can easily say this is one of my favorite series. I read a lot of books, and I can honestly say that there has never been another book that has truly made me cry like Echo in the Darkness did.

Tilt
by

Ellen Hopkins is definitely one of my favorite authors. Tilt had a very good and relatable story line. Her books are very real, and raw. She does not sugar coat anything. This book switches point of views from several characters. Each character has their own problem that they have to deal with: pregnancy, virginity, rape, HIV, death, etc. They are all dark things that not very many people like to cover. It is written in the form of poetry, which makes it different and interesting to read. I really recommend her books, but don't expect a happy ending.

This is the only book I read in this series, but I really enjoyed it. It is meant more for children, but I read this as a senior in high school and enjoyed it. I would recommend reading it before seeing the movie. I thought the characters were fun, as was the plot line.

I was very surprised by this book. I went into it wary, because it's not normally the type of book I would read. It was recommended to me, so I decided to check it out, and I instantly fell in love with it.
