When I was writing my book,
Brutes

City of Falling Angels

Another wonderful example of a real-life tale being every bit as interesting and compelling as a fictional novel. The story of the devastating fire and destruction of the centuries-old La Fenice opera house has me wanting to learn more about the amazing city of Venice. This tale is by turns engrossing, charming, tragic, and humorous. Nonfiction at its best.

Uncommon Arrangements: Seven Marriages
by
Katie Roiphe
Rachel Dumaine
, September 11, 2013
A fascinating look into the most private aspects of the intimate relationships of seven famous writers of the early 1900s. I was especially excited to learn more about Radclyffe Hall, having inherited my mother's 1st edition copy of The Well of Loneliness 25 years ago. Roiphe explores with penetrating insight the conscious and not-so-conscious motivations, advantages and costs of their controversial and "uncommon" relationships.
