Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. Lords of the Sith Star Wars

While not the best out of the new canon, I still have to say that this was actually surprisingly entertaining for the most part. The characters are actually interesting, and the relationship between Vader and Sidious is quite interesting to see. Although they do take the back seat for other characters, such as the clone wars introduced Cham Syndulla, and are eventually put up against giant bugs instead. That being said, there are some interesting points in this book that I did enjoy, such as the dynamics of the free ryloth movement and Vader affirming his place as a powerful sith lord. While not really a major story for the canon, this is a really neat side action adventure and is worth a weekend read.

Aftermath: Star Wars: Journey to Star Wars The Force Awakens: Aftermath 1

Out of the recent new Star Wars canon, this one was the least of my favorites. And not because of what is happening with the old EU being changed into what are now 'legends', and most definitely not due to the sexual orientation of certain characters, but because there is definite potential for a good story! Although disjointed and out of place, some of the small short stories were actually quite interesting, but with they way everything fell together it just came through as a mish mosh of characters and places that served little to no reason for being in the story except for the few. The some of the characters in the main story feel like something we've seen before, but others surprisingly had potential to be really interesting! And that's what had me not like this one, it had the potential to be something really really interesting and good, but with the writing being disjointed and sometimes rather silly and unnecessary at points, this is just one that you may just want to pass on.

Lost Stars: Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Probably my favorite of the recent new canon, Lost Stars had me absolutely hooked! Even being a young adult novel, this one sure had me from the start! Though still a love story, the characters had me caring about them and how they reacted to major plot points in the Star Wars films. And it was fun to see what happened in the films from a different point of view! Definitely recommend this one!
