Kelsey Ford: From the Stacks: J. M. Ledgard's Submergence (0 comment)
Our blog feature, "From the Stacks," features our booksellers’ favorite older books: those fortuitous used finds, underrated masterpieces, and lesser known treasures. When All Is Said by Anne Griffin
    Jaxn2, October 25, 2020
A marvelous tale of an abundant and raucous life as it un-spools in a snug Irish village, then meticulously gathered and fastened into a bow. Imagine an amalgam of John Banville, Niall Williams and hints of Annie Dillard, you can begin to imagine the flair and nuance of Griffin's prose, as emotionally moving as a Bach Cello suite. This will be the next offering for my Dog Eared Book Club ~J2

Art as Therapy by Alain De Botton, John Armstrong
    Jaxn2, August 03, 2020
A masterful teacher, guide, curator of images and insights. Every image, every paragraph pulls the reader upward. Few have the wisdom to write of nature, politics, art, and money so lucidly. Best summarized as approachable grandeur, cheeky observations, and ageless wisdom. Gosh, he would be swell to have as dear friend. This is a book I have purchased for my friends, until sadly, now out of print.

Enlightenment Now The Case for Reason Science Humanism & Progress by Steven Pinker
    Jaxn2, March 16, 2018
After reading Steven Pinker‘s new book, it feels as if I’ve been grasped by the lapels, shaken firmly, and told “get a grip man,” we’ve done this before. So, read this book in a quiet room with vast realms of enlightened history at your back; then eschewing the anectodage of the “news alerts,” reimagine your own future. You can begin to feel enlightened yourself.
