This was a good book. Edwidge talks about how her parents left Haiti, went to New York, and left her and her brother to be raised by their aunt and uncle. The uncle had some medical problems and he went to New York for medical care and then went back to Haiti. Edwidge's parents birthed two more children in the U.S., allowing them to stay in New York. They eventually sent for Edwidge and her brother to go live in New York with them. The book discusses the conditions of Haiti, which are very poor and sad. She describes the closeness of her family and tells the story of just how difficult it is to leave a country to come to the U.S. It makes you feel very blessed living in the U.S. compared to their living conditions.

This was one of my favorite Danielle Steel books! It's Johnny Angel meets Ghost! It was very emotional when Johnny was killed in a car crash and it had absolutely devastated his mother. But when Alice starts seeing Johnny, she is the only one that can see or hear him and at times, it was laugh out loud, funny! he came back to take care of some unfinished business. An excellent read!

This was very well written with great character development. It was very easy to sympathesize with the mother (Allyson) trying to raise her two teenage daughters (Becca and Lydia) alone without their father. There were many life challenges to contend with throughout the story. Allyson had the bossy mother-in-law to contend with also. Then there was Michael, her deceased husband's best friend...there was alot of emotion that went with this story: laughter, cheering on, sadness, etc. A great read!

This was about a family that was drifting apart, coming together in the end. A mother that was busy with her career that didn't make much time for her children, decides to take the family on a sailing vacation. Little disasters take place one after the other, but in the end, the family comes together in a fit for survival. A good read...

Jane Porter is an excellent writer...once I started reading this book, I couldn't put it down! this story is about a woman that got divorced and has two young children. Her ex-husband moved onto a younger woman and it took her a year to get back into the dating world. Jackie has 3 best girlfriends and one of them decides to give her a trip to Hawaii for her 40th birthday, but then her girlfriend cancels at the last minute leaving Jackie to go to Hawaii by herself. She meets Kai the surfing instructor and things go well. I don't want to give anything else away...but it is really a great book. This book is actually being made into a Lifetime movie to be aired sometime in December 2008 for the holidays. I went onto JanePorter.com's website to find the information as well as found out that in real life, her second home is actually in Hawaii and she is engaged to the surfer guy! there is a picture of him on her website, so it really made a nice visual for the book as I was reading it...highly recommended!! I'm now onto the Frog Prince by Jane Porter!

This was an excellent book, I read it in 2 days!! this is about a mother, Vivienne, that was pretty well wrapped up into her own life, leaving her young daughter, Jane-Sweetie to hold onto her imaginery friend, Michael. Michael was sent to Jane as an assignment to comfort her and only Jane could see him, but the assignment was to end when she reached the age of 9. She was told that she wouldn't remember Michael afterwards. When Jane grew up, she went to work at her mother's production company. Jane was in a relationship that was not working out very well and then one day she saw Michael for real. I won't give away what happens after that...it was a page turner! This was a dream come true love story...very well written!

Jane Porter writes about real issues that single parents encounter quite frequently (raising a child(ren) alone, working, taking care of an aging parent and trying to have a meaningful relationship). I was really able to connect with the characters in this book. I loved Marta's character for being different than the typical country club mom in the book, and for teaching her daughter that it's ok to be different. We shouldn't have to change who we are, just to fit in with the social crowd. It was truly an amazing, heartfelt book!

This book was very humorous. Elle thinks that no one likes her and she goes out of her way to get people to like her. She has a kind heart but is often viewed as lack-a-daisy, screws things up and she lacks self esteem. The good thing is that Elle seems to be able to laugh things off and not wear her emotions on her sleeve. You can't help but to love her character! I often found myself laughing out loud from some of the comments...it is definitely worth the read!
