Beautiful Creatures 01

Garcia, Kami and Stohl, Margaret

Beautiful Creatures is a Beautifully written book with characters that stand apart from the rest! I felt like I knew each and every one of them and the magical story that surrounds them. This is on thick tale of urban gothic goodness! I couldn't get enough and I certainly didn't want it to end! Ethan lives in the small southern town of Gatlin, SC. and he wants to be anywhere but there! This popular jock with the tough exterior is anything but and he wasn't to escape, get away from it all and to be the person he really longs to be. Suddenly Ethan begins having dreams of a girl, dreams that go on for months before this "dream girl" actually shows up in the town of Gatlin. But how? How can the girl Ethan's been dreaming about just magically appear right where he doesn't want to be. Ethan couldn't possibly leave now. Not when there's so much to know. This girl's name is Lena and Ethan feels a type of attraction that was love at first sight. But will her mysterious past ever be revealed? This story unfolds beautifully and Ethan tells it the way he needs it told. Many YA Books are told from a female character's perspective, but with "Beautiful Creatures", I wouldn't have had it any other way. I savored each page and stayed up late each and every night. "Beautiful Creatures" is a book you'll get lost in and love the way it feels. I highly recommend it. It's one of the best books I've read this year! Amazingly Beautiful!

Crystal Bay
by
Brandon Ford

I read this book in two days! I just couldn't put it down! The suspense that makes this twisted story come alive will keep you turning pages until the wee hours of the morning! Brandon Ford's debut novel Crystal Bay is quite an introduction to a voice that is all his own. He writes with a masterful hand that reminds me of many of the greats! I can't say enough about Brandon Ford or his works. Crystal Bay was a place that Gage was going to retire to so he could follow his dream and write his masterpiece. That is until he meets Amanda and what happens after that is anything but crystal clear! Gripping and suspenseful! You'll love your visit here at Crystal Bay!

Murder, medicine, psychiatry and a paranormal twist made for a book that I couldn't put down! Grandhi's debut novel is a page turner from beginning to end! But be warned, once you pick it up, you won't put it down!

Olive Kitteridge

Elizabeth Strout

Olive Kitteridge takes an usual approach at story telling and comes out on top! All of the characters intermingle at some point in each of the thirteen very different stories. These characters and the stories themselves are very easy to love. It's like opening a different present with each new tale!

Darling Jim
by
Christian Moerk

The 'Seanchai' are the keepers of the Irish lore. According to Christian Moerk and his debut novel, they can still be found in Ireland to this very day! They travel from pub to pub telling their tales. It is an honored and well crafted skill. After reading and LOVING 'Darling Jim', I am convinced that this talented new writer would be declared a 'Seanchai' himself. He's one that can certainly spin a yarn with ease! Take some time and read this dark tale that kept me on the edge of my seat. You'll be glad you did! A page-turner from beginning to end!

The Book of Matthew: A Macabre Novel of Suspense
by
Thomas White
Amy E
, September 21, 2008
I couldn't help but close the book and hide my eyes quite a few times during this book! Believe it or not, I read this book in one sitting. Thomas White does a fantastic job writing this fast-paced page turning novel. Yao and Angie (realtor/agent), find a body at one of the homes and in the mind of this serial killer named Matthew, who researches some of the most brutal ways to kill and torture people, who calls his crimes "messies" will keep you guessing until the very end. Catching a brutal serial killer isn't easy. Yao and Angie are frustrated because they are always just one step behind this mad man. They knew it wouldn't be easy, but this hard? The characters in this book are anything but flat and kept me up well into the night. The descriptions of the torture and killings are graphic and amazingly unique. This book kept me up at night and that's just the way I like them. While not for the squeamish, I would highly recommend this book! From cover to cover, I loved everything about it. White's writing talents are amazing! I definitely look forward to reading more from this author! This book will always have a place on my book shelf.

Th1rteen R3asons Why
by
Jay Asher
Amy E
, February 26, 2008
I think this book shouldn't be classified as a "teen only read". It's a life lesson and I think everyone that reads it, benefits. Clay is shocked when he receives a box of tapes on his doorstep. There are only two rules to this game, you listen to the tapes and then you pass them on to the next person on the list. He's even more shocked when he realizes that they are from Hannah, the girl that commited suicide last week. You never understand in life just how much what you do or say affects someone else and how they live or die.
