Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. Safe Baby Pregnancy Tips

While on the hunt for a gift to celebrate my friend's first pregnancy, I ran across Safe Baby Pregnancy Tips by David Sopp. My two-year old was soon spinning the "Wheel of Responsibility" on the front cover while I was laughing out loud at the drawings. The message of the book is that you probably think that your friends and loved ones need advice on how to have a healthy pregnancy, right? Instead of getting an annoying earful every day until the baby is born, this hilarious picture book will remind them that they can make their own good choices! Far better than surfing the internet for hypochondriac-inducing pregnancy dross, this book has straight forward diagrams. Be different, be better: give the gift of laughter and maybe some good chocolates. Those are really what pregnant women need. Heck, you probably need those things too, I know that I do.

Waiting for Baby A Pregnancy Memory Album

I was given this book as a gift when I was pregnant with my first child. I thought it was great to have an attractive and easy to access place to write down my thoughts and concerns and other things that I otherwise would have forgotten about my pregnancy. I kept other journals as well, but this one was pretty and yellow and soothing. I even got my husband to add to it as the topics were straight forward and he could easily write a short answer to any of them. It helped us keep track of embarrassing moments as well as touching ones. This will be a sure addition to future scrapbooks and photo albums. I would have liked a little more space for storing photos (including those clumsy ultrasound printouts) and add more blank pages in case certain comments don't fall under standard headings. In general, it was a great to have around.
