Back when the Florida Keys Scenic Highway was being built, they piled up mounds of earth to support the roadbed. When a family of hillbillies accidentally discovers this brand-new unclaimed land, they decide to homestead. Needless to say, the Florida authorities are not happy. It's a classic, and hilarious, case of country bumpkin versus city slicker

How often is the second book in a series even better than the first? (Never?) Dream Thieves is the exception. Blue begins to discover which Raven boy she really loves, Adam finds his true vocation, and Ronin brings his dreams to actual physical life. I've barely touched the surface of all that happens in this book! My only question: How can book three possibly manage to keep

This is Charlie's moving journal detailing both the extreme enhancement of his intellect by an experimental drug and his subsequent loss of intelligence. As I get older, I appreciate it even more for its insights into loss of abilities, because I see an analogy to

This is not a dog story (although Abby does have three dogs who are important to her). Instead, it is the honest depiction of how a woman named Abigail Thomas survived the shattering loss of her happy marriage when her husband is hit by a car and receives a traumatic brain injury. And how life can go

If you were so poor you had to dig through trash every day just to find enough junk you could sell to survive, what would you do if you found a wallet filled with money and, therefore, a way to leave the dump forever? Could you keep it when everyone tried to take it

What would it take to make a cynical, dedicated, professional bodyguard have sex with the man she's supposed to be protecting? Alcohol? Opportunity? Anger? Lust? Bernie can't believe it when she finds out she's pregnant! An enjoyable read. I especially liked the well-rounded supporting
