Could you describe your latest book, One Hundred Percent Me?
A little girl is used to hearing questions about her looks all the time. "Where are you from?" "What are you?" These questions are a constant reminder from others that she is different. As she embraces her identity and culture, she teaches others that she belongs, that the differences they notice are part of what make her unique, special, and herself....

Are you a gifted child looking for special opportunities?

When this peculiar ad appears in the newspaper, dozens of children enroll to take a series of mysterious, mind-bending tests. (And you, dear reader, can test your wits right alongside them.) But in the end just four very special children will succeed. Their challenge: to go on a secret mission that only the most intelligent and resourceful children could complete. To accomplish it they will have to go undercover at the Learning Institute for the Very Enlightened, where the only rule is that there are no rules.

As our heroes face physical and mental trials beyond their wildest imaginations, they have no choice but to turn to each other for support. But with their newfound friendship at stake, will they be able to pass the most important test of all?

Welcome to the Mysterious Benedict Society.

Review

"Fans of Roald Dahl or Blue Balliett will find a familiar blend of kid power, clues, and adventure." School Library Journal

Review

"With its lively style, fresh character portrayals, and well-timed revelations, this story flies past, thrilling us as it goes. Just be sure your flashlight batteries are well charged." Horn Book Magazine

Review

"The characters are well developed, mostly appealing, and evenhanded. Ellis's line drawings add a crowning flair. Do not miss this one. Buy two copies because they will be needed." VOYA

Review

"[A] feel-good story with a happy ending for the four orphaned and runaway children who find friendship and family." Children's Literature

Review

"Low in physical violence, while being rich in moral and ethical issues, as well as in appealingly complex characters and comedy sly and gross, this Lemony Snicket-style outing sprouts hooks for hearts and minds both..." Kirkus Reviews

If for some reason you haven't encountered this book already, you MUST read it now. I mean, only if you like to read young adult page-turners that involve a mystery solved by children in deadly danger. For all of us who were nerds as kids, or tomboys, or just, a bit...contrary, this is the book where us 'other kids' get to be heroes. It also is a phenomenal book to read out loud. My (adult) friend broke his leg badly and was laid up in bed for a month staying with us and we read it before bedtime to him. None of us wanted to go to sleep. Hooray Mysterious Benedict Society!

To join the Mysterious Benedict Society children have to pass a series of unusual tests after responding to a newspaper add. There are strict rules; if you don’t follow them or cheat, you will be disqualified. The children who are chosen are given a dangerous, but very important mission. It must be completed correctly; the human race depends on it. “You are our last possible hope. You are our only hope.” This shows you how important it is to complete the mission. The Mysterious Benedict Society is suspenseful and surprising; almost every time I thought I knew what would happen next, the characters did the exact opposite. You are sure to love this book if you like mystery, action, suspense, and humor. I know that these things made the book interesting and exciting for me.

Stewart presents the world through the lens of four very talented and unique children who are more talented and unique than usual. Though strong on kid power, there exists a balance in the adult characters, who are neither too weak nor too strong. Quirky, fun, and serious all at the same time, this book is YA fiction that kids will enjoy, families can read together or adults can indulge in without guilt.

Sometimes I dearly wish that certain books had been written 20 years ago when I was a kid. The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart is one of these books. It was totally enjoyable now but I think it would have been even more so had I been able to read it in my youth. This book is the first in a series and I think it will be a good standard for the new generation. It is empowering and puts a lot of emphasis on thought and reasoning but also values personality and physicality. Every kid will find someone to relate to and look up to in the Benedict Society.

This exceptional story will capture the awe and the attention of young readers. I certainly will purchase additional copies. I know a few young people that will relish it. Trenton Lee Stewart delivers beautifully. As a reader I enjoyed this novel, as an author I am impressed. Teachers and parents should definitely have this book in their libraries. It is not just for children either; people of all ages will love it.
